					Chief Executive Officer – Envision
Salary: £50,000 pa
Reports to: The Chair of the Board of Trustees
Responsible for: All employees and volunteers.
Key Relationships:
Internal: Chair, Trustee Board, SMT, staff, volunteers, and young people
External: Funding bodies (statutory bodies and grant-making organisations) and other supporters
(companies, community groups and individuals), other charities, auditors; contractors, strategic
partners and other external agencies.
Location: central London
Contract: permanent with six month probationary period

Envision seeks to create the next generation of world changers. We support 16-19 year olds to set up
their own social and environmental community projects and in the process build their confidence,
skills, knowledge and motivation to be active. Founded in 2000 working with just 50 young people,
Envision currently works with thousands of young people from offices in London, Birmingham and

Envision is looking for a new CEO at the most exciting time in its history. We are about to embark on a
period of substantial growth, in addition to an ongoing diversification of our activities to meet our
mission in partnership with new audiences.

A.      Envision in the future
•    Opening two additional offices to have a network of five by 2012 working with young people across
     the country
•    Empowering young people and others through the provision of services to public, voluntary &
     private sector audiences
•    Ongoing support for our growing network of young social & environmental leaders
•    Continuing to champion youth voice and influence relevant policy and decision-making
•    Building on the best of its unique culture which includes individual responsibility and collegiate

B.      Responsibilities
B.1. Vision & Strategy
• Providing clear leadership and direction for the SMT and staff
• To be able to clearly articulate Envision’s vision, mission and values – reviewing them with others
   as necessary to bring clarity & build ownership
• Responsible for setting, consulting on and co-creating Envision’s short, medium and long-term
   strategy / business plan with clear targets, milestones and deliverables
• Act as a source of inspiration and motivation to all employees and wider stakeholders
• Taking appropriate steps to protect the organisation from risk
B.2. Governance
• Ensure the board is supported and challenged to assist and lead the organisation in the delivery of
   its strategic objectives
• To support the board in broadening its capabilities and developing its leadership potential;
• To work with the board in fulfilling the charity’s constitutional, regulatory and legal obligations
• To ensure the continued involvement of young people throughout the organisation’s governance,
   strategy, operations and delivery

B.3. Fundraising & Enterprise
• Accountable for Envision raising funds from all sources to deliver its agreed strategic objectives in
   the medium term, and developing and implementing a sustainable funding strategy for the long-
• Seeking and developing new sources of income, working with staff, trustees and advisors outside
   the organisation
• Working with the fundraising & enterprise team to strategise and prepare grants and corporate
   approaches, and meeting potential and existing funders where appropriate

B.4. Finance
• Responsible to trustees and beneficiaries for the financial health of the organisation
• Ensure appropriate and effective financial management including a successful audit process each

B.5. Delivery & Development
• Involved in some of Envision’s service delivery to young people (to be able to communicate our
   vision & quality with integrity)
• Ability to advise externally on youth empowerment methodologies
• Involved in the development of new ideas, opportunities and programmes with the objective of
   meeting our mission and generating income

B.6. Raising Envision’s profile and influence
• Protect and enhance the reputation of the organisation
• Creating opportunities to expand and promote awareness of Envision’s work with key audiences in
   public, voluntary and private sectors
• Being an impassioned spokesperson for Envision, representing the organisation at appropriate
   fora and with external agencies
• Accountable for and assisting where appropriate in the formulation of communications strategies
• Inspiring young leaders – specifically setting an example for Envision alumni

B.7. Internally
• Leading by example, congruent to Envision’s vision and values
• Inspiring and managing others to give their highest to Envision and to uphold its strong shared
   sense of identity, commitment and co-operation
• Efficient allocation of organisational resources, managing ongoing challenges and opportunities
   and supporting the SMT to do likewise
• Manage department heads (programme, resources, fundraising / enterprise and communications),
   supporting them to set targets and strategies and be accountable for their achievement

• Knowledge of voluntary and community sector practice, ideally specifically with empowerment,
   youth and / or sustainable development
