JANITORIAL JOB DESCRIPTIONS
BALTIC PUBLIC SCHOOLS 49-1
General Description: Person shall be in charge of and-or perform cleaning, light maintenance,
summer building preparation work, and exterior yard work at the elementary site which includes
the elementary classroom building, elementary gym, and elementary playground areas including
the bus barn area. The janitor shall report to the building Principal for daily duties and to the
Superintendent for overall duties.
Cleaning Duties: Cleaning shall be done as per a schedule of work and duties and other items as
needed or directed. (See Policy GDA-3A). Part-time cleaning help may be provided during the
Summer Preparation Worked: Prior to the beginning of the school term all areas will need to be
cleaned and repaired. Some of the work would include: painting, floor stripping and waxing, and
Maintenance Work: Employee shall be expected to make repairs on such things as desks and
other school fixtures. Daily maintenance on boilers and compressors shall be necessary.
Employee will also be expected to do painting, some plumbing, and light carpentry.
Exterior Work: This shall consist of general clean-up, mowing, and snow and ice removal.
Work Hours: To be set by the Superintendent of Schools.
Salary: Established by the Board of Education. Overtime, hours over 40 per week, shall be
granted upon the approval of the Superintendent in cases such as snow and ice removal and
emergency repairs. Paid holidays are July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day,
New Year’s Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, and Veteran’s Day if it is a school holiday.
Benefits: 10 days sick leave per year, cumulative to 30 work days. $45 will be paid monthly by
the district towards participation in the school’s group health insurance. 5 days of paid vacation
shall be granted the first year; eight days the second year; 10 days for a year 3 and thereafter.
Evaluation: To be done at least once each year by the Superintendent of Schools.
