National Handball Team to Italy Information Hi everyone, Wanted to inform you of an exciting event occurring in Italy this coming November, 2010. Canada has been invited to send a National team to participate in the Third One Wall Federation Cup this coming November. The CHA would like to send a Canadian team consisting of a minimum three men and three women, one official and one team manager to this event. As mentioned, it is in Italy, in Imperia (Ligeria Region), near France’s Coted’Azur. The nearest airport is Nice. The Federation Cup organizing committee would provide accommodation for this team for up to five nights from November 3-8 and most meals during the tournament which is played on the Saturday-Sunday Nov 5-7. Each player would be responsible for their own roundtrip airfare from their city airport to Nice , Italy and some meals. The Canadian Handball Association would provide each member with a Canadian team uniform . Players could personally fund their trip or have other means of raising funds such as requesting funding from their own provincial handball association, provincial sports, city government, or have fund raising projects. During the Worlds in Portland this past October, we were able to field a mens’ team for the one wall event. They thoroughly enjoyed the extra event and competed well considering there is little one wall handball in Canada. The other European, US and South American countries were very strong. The Canadian players felt that one wall was a great alternative to indoor court starved countries and may be the future of handball in general. How to select a team is daunting. With much discussion and thought I have decided to write you and ask that you send this to other Canadian players, post it on your website, provincial newsletter etc. If you are strongly interested in participating after reading this , please contact me asasp. It is open to any Canadian (citizen) who is a Provincial Association member .. If there are more players applying than needed for each division (ie:three men and three women), we would have a singles one wall qualifier at the Canadian Nationals in Burlington this coming May (May 19-22,2010). As most of our top players would be competing at the Four wall event, we thought that this would be the fairest means to select a team. I have been in contact with the Federation Cup committee and informed them that we would make a decision regarding Canada’s participation early this year (2010). It is therefore imperative that you make your interest known by March 1, 2010. Within a week of this date , we will inform interested players as to the process that the CHA will use to select the team. Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns. Warm regards Brian
