Thameslink Rolling Stock Project ITT Appendix V Interior Design

Thameslink Rolling Stock Project – ITT Appendix V – Interior Design Proposals Appendix V Interior Design Proposals 1. DESIGN CONCEPT The overriding vision for the interior design is to support a service operation that ensures that the passenger's needs come first at every stage of the lifecycle. Bidders should present their design concepts in such a way to demonstrate compliance with the requirements in the TTS, through media such as visualisations, layout drawings and descriptions, It is recommended that the Bidders refer to the example computer visualisations of the in the Data Site. The designs depicted in these visualisations are not mandatory but they were developed as part of the process of determining the requirements in the TTS. These visualisations are not specific to any particular layout or vehicle configuration. 2. FLEXIBILITY REQUIREMENTS Bidders shall submit a detailed scheme for reconfiguring the vehicle layouts in accordance with the flexibility requirements in the TTS. This should include: (a) (b) (c) (d) 3. the layouts of the variants proposed; confirmation of seating, standing and utility (luggage, cycles etc) capacity for each; outline methodology for the Operator to reconfigure the layout from one variant to another, including estimate man-hours; and confirmation that all variants will be approved as part of MSA acceptance obligations. TRAIN CLEANING AND SERVICING Bidders shall submit proposals for train cleaning and servicing, including outline methodologies and estimated man-hours for: (a) (b) (c) daily interior clean; servicing of CET, water, sand and other servicing activities; and periodic heavy clean (28 days). Bidders shall also submit proposals for external washplant cleaning of Units, including brush types, cleaning processes and chemicals, and process cycle time per Unit. LON5599431/3 Page 1 Thameslink Rolling Stock Project – ITT Appendix V – Interior Design Proposals Assumptions for facilities at stabling locations where cleaning and servicing will be carried out are available in the Data Site. Bidders should confirm their proposals are compatible with these assumptions or advise any changes with suitable justification. Bidders should confirm that they will co-operate with the Operator at an early stage of the contract to agree detailed cleaning and servicing instructions. 4. 4.1 INTERIOR DESIGN FEATURES Seating Bidders shall provide: (a) dimensioned arrangement drawings of the seating types proposed, including arrangements of all the seating configurations to demonstrate seat pitch efficiency using 95%ile male and 5%ile female anthropometric data. PeopleSize 2008 Pro or equivalent should be used to validate the dimensions; a description of the how pitch efficiency, seat profile contouring and width will be optimised to meet TTS requirements for passenger flow, whilst maintaining a high level of comfort and perception of defensible space; and a description of how cushion hardness with respect to comfort, longevity and other standards shall be optimised, and details of testing and/or field trials that the Bidders propose to undertake. Grabrails and Grabpoles (b) (c) 4.2 Bidders shall provide a description of the proposals for location and design of grabrails and grabpoles, demonstrating compliance with standards, whilst ensuring compatibility with passenger flow and integration with the overall design. 4.3 Lighting Bidders shall provide a description of the proposals for lighting, demonstrating compliance with the TTS, whilst ensuring enhancement of interior features to aid passenger flow, visibility of passenger information, security and general perception. This shall also include visualisations or outline drawings of proposals for lighting fixtures, to demonstrate how lighting will complement the overall interior design. Bidders shall confirm that they will co-operate with the Operator to agree the final lighting levels and colour in all areas of the interior, including cabs. LON5599431/3 Page 2 Thameslink Rolling Stock Project – ITT Appendix V – Interior Design Proposals 4.4 Signage Bidders shall provide a description and examples of the proposals for signage, demonstrating compliance with the TTS and standards, whilst ensuring uniformity of location and design to aid passenger information and complement the overall interior design. 5. EXTERIOR DESIGN Bidders shall provide: (a) visualisations and general arrangement drawings of the Unit exterior, including front end, side elevation of bodyside and side elevation of inter-car gangway area; a description of the exterior design features, demonstrating compliance with the TTS; and a description of the surfacing, detailing and quality of finish that will be achieved in the final design. GENERAL DESIGN PROCESS (b) (c) 6. The design process for the interior, exterior, livery, cab interior, traincrew interfaces is a vital consideration for the successful introduction of the Units into passenger service. The Bidders should describe the process proposed for finalising design details through consultation with the Operator and other stakeholders. This shall take advantage of the requirements to build mockups, and the Bidders may propose additional mock-ups, scale models, 2d and 3D visualisations and computerised modelling to those specified in the TTS for the purpose of design finalisation. Bidders should describe the methodology and process for optimising and validating design layout and features for dwell time and passenger flow, including use of mock-ups for trials. Bidders should describe the methodology and process for optimising the ergonomic design of the Units in conjunction with the Operator and other stakeholders. This shall include details of the evaluation of human factors using recognised standards and appropriately qualified expertise. Bidders should confirm that they will use the anthropometric data contained in PeopleSize 2008 Pro (which can be purchased from www.openerg.com/psz) with the standard settings replaced by the Thameslink Customers User Group 2008 file located in the Data Room. This contains instructions for use. Specific anthropometric data for traincrew shall comply with standards, and Bidders shall state the data proposed for maintenance staff. LON5599431/3 Page 3
