Bell Research Centre for Business Process Innovations CALL FOR PROPOSALS 1. Background The Bell Research Centre for Business Process Innovations arises out of the need to understand the implications of business process innovations. The centre supports different research areas related to business process innovations including: Performance and compensation management, customer relations management, customer service marketing, cost management, ethics and social responsibility management. In order to facilitate the communications between Bell Canada and JMSB researchers, the Centre provides a formal platform that helps locate potential research partners or champions within Bell by collaborating with Bell University Laboratories (BUL). In addition, the Centre will serve as a local funding branch for selected research projects. 2. Criteria for Selecting Research A Scientific Committee, composed of four full-time JMSB faculty members actively involved in conducting research on business process innovations, will evaluate research proposals based on the following criteria: Scholarly significance of the research Potential for advancing the understanding of business processes (preference will be given to those projects that pertain directly or indirectly to Bell business processes). Feasibility of successfully completing the project, taking into consideration the track record of the researcher. Presence of clearly defined project plan, defined deliverables, and budget. Who can apply Any Faculty member or student of JMSB can apply for support. Students who apply need to be supervised by a faculty member. For projects submitted by a team, at least one of member of the team needs to be affiliated with JMSB. Bell Research Centre for Business Process Innovations 1/2 4. Format of Proposals The research proposal should adhere to accepted formatting guidelines (e.g., APA guidelines) and should include the following: 1. A short abstract. 2. A section outlining the objectives, the quality and the significance of the project. 3. A method section including information about the sample, measures, data collection strategies, and analytical strategies. 4. Implications of the proposed research for Bell Canada (if any). Note that the proposal does not need to be directly related to Bell Canada. 5. Proposed communication of findings to Bell, JMSB, and the academic community. 6. Project plan, defined deliverables, and proforma budget (according to FQRSC guidelines). 7. The Vitae of the researcher(s) involved in the project. The proposal should not exceed 4 pages of text (not including references, tables, appendices, and Vitae). Proposals submitted by a student should include a letter of endorsement from the students’ academic advisor/supervisor. For research involving human participants, the researchers will need to be approved by the University Human Research Ethics Committee. 5. Responsibilities for Funded Researchers Researchers funded by the Centre have the duty to maintain regular contact with the Centre as to the progress of their project. At the conclusion of the project, they are to submit a written final report to the Scientific Committee. They are also expected to disseminate their results within Bell, JMSB, and the academic community. Research outputs should acknowledge the Centre’s contribution to the research (e.g., research reports, conference presentation and proceedings, interviews, press releases, etc). 6.
