SAMPLE LETTER COPY
Dear TNT Friends:
Every year, around the time of my birthday, I give thought to what I want to achieve with the next
year of my life. I want to make this year of the new millennium special in a big way both for
myself and for someone else. This is why I am writing you. This is why I decided to contribute
to finding a cure for blood-related cancers.
I have joined Team In Training (TNT), a fundraising & fitness program of the Leukemia &
Lymphoma Society (formerly The Leukemia Society of America). In return for my fundraising
efforts, TNT is providing me with professional cycle training, travel and accommodations to
participate in (name of event). I have promised to raise $X,XXX. I will be training weekly in
preparation to pedal out 100 miles at the event-alongside hundreds of TNT cyclists from across
the country! Challenging as it sounds, I am committed to do this for myself as well as for those
who will be benefit from the cures.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is one of the world’s leading nonprofit organizations with
over 50 years of integrity and a highly respected reputation. 75% of all funds raised go directly to
research; that’s a pretty remarkable ratio when compared to other leading organizations.
As you may have heard from recent reports, researchers are quickly circling in on an effective
treatment for leukemia. Although test treatments are providing hope, our endeavors are not yet
complete. TNT raises fund to support research for a variety of blood-related cancers including
myeloma and lymphoma.
Every nine minutes, another child or adult dies from leukemia, lymphoma, or myeloma; 60,500
persons in the US will die of these diseases this year. An estimated 632,000 Americans are living
with leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma and an estimated 107,900 people in the U.S. were
diagnosed with these diseases in 1999. While new cases of these diseases account for about 11
percent of all cancer cases each year, leukemia and lymphoma are the leading fatal cancers in
young people under 35. I want to help change that. Will you join me?
Please help me make the millennium a turning point for everyone who will ever suffer from
blood-related cancers; your donation may someday benefit someone you know.
With a heartfelt thank you!
PS. I have enclosed an addressed envelope for your tax-deductible contribution. Please make
checks out to: The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
