Request for Proposals Seed Grant Funding for Graduate Minors
(revised July 5, 2005)
Overview
With funding from the Office of the President, the Graduate School is administering a two-year incentive program to expand the current corpus of minors and interdisciplinary specializations available to graduate and professional students and to stimulate summer offerings of such programs. Seed grant proposals for creating new graduate minors (involving one graduate program) are eligible for awards up to $10,000. Seed grants to provide summer offerings for graduate minors already in place are eligible for awards at a maximum of $10,000.
Use of Funds
Funds may be requested for • Faculty release time for the planning stages of a proposal • Summer offerings of current, established graduate minors • Summer offerings of proposed graduate minors • Administrative costs • And/or other costs
Deadlines
Requests for funding were considered in Spring 2005 and will be considered through the Fall 2005-Spring 2006 academic year. Submissions will be reviewed on a rolling basis up until the published deadlines. Spring 2006 deadline: May 5, 2006 (The Spring 2005 deadline has passed.)
Review Process
The Curriculum Committee of the Council on Research and Graduate Studies will review the seed grant proposals. This committee will evaluate the value of the proposed graduate minor to the graduate community to determine if the proposal presents an idea worth pursuing. Since this committee review is preliminary, full sign-off through the graduate program’s usual internal processes is not necessary before the initial review. If the committee approves the concept, the proposing program may be awarded funding to develop the minor or, depending upon the level of preparation in the seed grant proposal, may be invited to prepare a full proposal. The review process for full proposals follows the usual governance rules for the review of new graduate minors and interdisciplinary specializations through the Council on Research and Graduate Studies. Please see http://www.gradsch.osu.edu/Current_Students/Programs/Minors/Developing.html for more information.
