Knorr-Bremse and ZAO Transmashholding sign letter of intent to set up joint
venture in Russia

Knorr-Bremse and the Russian company ZAO Transmashholding have signed a letter of
intent for the setting up of a joint venture in Russia. The plan is for the new company,
which will be responsible for the manufacture, sale and servicing of complete braking
systems for rail vehicles in Russia and the CIS states, to be based in central Russia.
Each partner will hold a 50% share in it.

Moscow-based Transmashholding is Russia's largest manufacturer of rolling stock, with
a market share of 85% for locomotives, 92% for passenger and freight cars and 75% for
electric multiple units. The company is rapidly expanding its vehicle production. The
agreement represents an important milestone for the Knorr-Bremse Group, as it will be
the first time it has supplied state-of-the-art rail vehicle braking technology and
manufacturing expertise to Russia.

The Knorr-Bremse Group is the world’s leading manufacturer of braking systems for
rail and commercial vehicles. For more than 100 years now the company has pioneered
the development, production and marketing of state-of-the-art braking systems. Other
lines of business include automatic door systems, rail vehicle air conditioning systems
and torsional vibration dampers for internal combustion engines. In 2006 the Group
posted sales of EUR 3.1 billion and employed a workforce of 13,000. To find out more
