"Learn to Ski Day" and money-saving ski packages
If you or someone you know has always wanted to try skiing or snowboarding, dig out those snowpants because two local mountains are offering $10 beginner packages for one day only: Thursday, January 8. Each package includes a lift ticket, equipment rental and a lesson. Reservations are required at Blue Mountain Ski Area , but just mention "PA Learn to Ski & Snowboard Day" at Bear Creek Mountain Resort's ticket window to get the discount.

Local wine recipes
Not only do Lehigh Valley wineries make great places to visit, they can also be used as resources when you're in the kitchen. Browse through Galen Glen Vineyard & Winery's recipe archive, or print out Mary Sorrenti's recipe page from Cherry Valley Vineyards' site. The Lehigh Valley Wine Trail even has a cookbook of recipes, which is available for purchase at any of the nine family-owned wineries on the trail or at the Lehigh Valley Visitor Center.

History on wheels
For the past 104 years, Lehigh Valley has been home to the bulldog of all truck manufacturers, Mack Trucks. With such a long, rich history, the Mack Trucks Historical Museum was created for you to re-live the Mack story through antique vehicles and more than 80,000 photos. Just be sure to contact the museum before visiting to make sure it's open. For more history on Mack, and other wheeled vehicles, visit the America on Wheels Museum. AOW has three permanent galleries filled with cars, trucks, bikes and even a lawnmower; the fourth "changing exhibit" gallery is currently home to nearly 100 years of auto racing history, including a special tribute to former Nazareth resident Mario Andretti. Museum hours and admission prices are available online.
Football in 3-D and the luge
Instead of sitting at home, wishing you were at the BCS National Championship game, you could be watching the Florida Gators and the Oklahoma Sooners up close and personal. Rave Motion Pictures at the Promenade Shops is one of 82 theaters broadcasting this game live in 3-D on January 8 at 8 p.m. Tickets are only $20, which is a steal considering the "cheap seats" at the game are going for $340 each! Blue Mountain Ski Area plays host to USA Luge for Luge Challenge Weekend, January 17 - 18. Learn the basics from members of the USA World Cup Luge Team and compete for prizes. Or you can simply watch and learn about the Fastest Sport on Ice®. There's no cost associated with this event, but you must be at least 10 years old to participate.
Eat and shop for less in Lehigh Valley
Looking for a hearty meal under $20? Pearly Baker's Alehouse is hosting their 14th Annual Chili Cook-Off, February 1, and admission is only $5 per person (proceeds go to a local charity). Entries come from local restaurants and caterers, and you get to taste them all! You can even cast your vote for the People's Choice. Doors open at 11:30 a.m.; the event ends at 4 p.m., which gives you plenty of time to get home to watch the Super Bowl. On the shopping side of things, now is the time to start (or add to) your art collection. Save 10% - 60% on almost everything at Monsoon Gallery during Monsoon's Annual Sale. Whether you're looking for a painting by a specific artist, a new piece of handcrafted jewelry, or a sculpture to fill that bare space in your living room, it will most likely be on sale. Family fun in Lehigh Valley
This month, Mock Turtle Marionette Theater presents several family-friendly performances at the Ice House. On Saturday, January 10, experience a world ruled by animals via the interactive performance "Book, Beast and Puppet." Then on Saturday, January 17, Cliff Sunflower (pictured) presents "Dancin' with the Honeybees," an educational program on the world of bees. For more January performances, times and admission prices, visit Mock Turtle's Web site. The Crayola FACTORY® will be closed until January 15 for their annual shutdown. But the remainder of the month is filled with special creative activities at Crayola to celebrate: International Thank You Days Martin Luther King, Jr. Day National Handwriting Days You can also join Pablo from The Backyardigans on January 31 or February 1 for a McDonald's lunch and special gift. Cost is $10 for children, $8 for adults; reservations required.
Music in the Valley
From national acts to local musicians, Godfrey Daniels is known as a haven for folk performers and fans. A not-for-profit member-supported venue, Godfrey Daniels offers a schedule packed month after month with affordable shows (no ticket over $25 ) and free jams, including oldtime, bluegrass and swing. Come learn what the "Godfrey's Experience" is all about. On Saturday, January 31, local gospel choirs will perform for a panel of judges in Faith! A Clash of the Allentown Choirs. Six groups will be selected to perform during the Pennsylvania Sinfonia Orchestra's concert that night at Allentown Symphony Hall. Tickets for this kick-off to Black History Month are only $10 and can be ordered online.
Bethlehem art
A new photography exhibit, "Back to Lowndes County," is being unveiled January 17 at the Banana Factory. This highly personal exhibit by Easton resident Estizer Smith features modern photos inspired by those taken by her father during the civil rights movement in the deep South. Meet Smith and learn more about the story behind the project on January 23 at 6 p.m. After singing "Auld Lang Syne" just a week ago, Celtic Cultural Alliance has arranged a three-day celebration for the song's creator, Robbie Burns, January 23 - 25. Burns Weekend (PDF) will feature theatrical performances of Burns' poetry at Historic Hotel Bethlehem, a scotch tasting at McCarthy's Tea Room,
