Description: The major in Art prepares an individual to work in a variety of settings requiring an education in the liberal arts and design. Students who are interested in “hands on” experience in the visual arts would pursue a degree called Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.). This degree is intensive and does prepare a student to work as a professional artist or designer. Many students prepare themselves to teach in a school system with an Art Education degree. These students must have effective communication skills and enjoy working with children. Whether a person chooses employment in industry, in a school system or selfemployment, the Art major offers a student an opportunity to develop skills in problem solving, critical thinking, management and administration, and communication.
