Introduction to Technology Seminar & Basic Windows XP features. Goal: The overall goal of the first session is to introduce the relevant educational software and discuss relevance of computer/software and limited access issues at Home with special emphasis on previous experience in using technology in teaching.

Objectives: Upon completion of the session 1, you will be able to:  Provide rationale for using new technology in instruction (advantages & disadvantages).  Recognize and use basic features of Windows XP operating system (understand folder organization, create a folder, find a folder, create a file, save a file, find a file, send attachment, open attachment, etc.) Class activities: 12:30 – 13:30 13:30 – 13:45 13:45 – 13:50 13:50 – 14:00 14:00 – 14:20 14:20 – 14:30 14:30 – 15:00 15:00 – 15:30 Discussion about computer/software and limited access issue. Present an overview of the seminar content (Technology Training Topics) Group/individual photo Break (email pictures to participants) Create folders on the Desktop Demonstration of procedures for making a file Mini-Tutorials on Fundamentals: How to create, save and find a file. Basic email operation – open/send attachment (photo sharing).

Internet Search Engines Goal: In this session you will learn basic techniques for searching the Internet by using different Searching Engines. Objectives: Upon completion of the session two, you will be able to:        Understand the structure and purpose of the Internet Use different Web searching engine such as Google Yahoo, AltaVista, MSN, etc Search the Internet by using “key word” technique Find Web site that you want Download the pictures from the Web and save it in the folder Make Bookmark of the useful Web sites Retrieve Web site contents (text, files...) and copy/paste Internet address into a different search engine (windows)

Class activities: 08:30 – 09:00 Discussion about the role of Internet in education & A brief historical overview of the Internet development, current structure and it’s services (email, www, IP, File Transfer Protocol, etc.) 09:00 – 09:30 Demonstration of searching techniques and retrieving Web data (text, pictures, and files) 09:30 – 10:30 Mini-Tutorial on Fundamentals: How to use Internet Searching Engines – Google 10:30 – 10:40 Break 10:40 – 12:00 Download pictures (Flag of your country & Capitol Building), save it into the folder and attach picture file to the email.

Microsoft PowerPoint Goal: You will learn how to create a Power Point Presentation. Objectives: At the end of the session three you will be able to:  Launch PowerPoint application  Create slides  Add pictures & charts  Add transition & sounds  Make a hyperlink  Start slideshow Class activities: 08:00 – 08:45 You will get into groups and discuss reasons why Power Point Presentations are beneficial in language instruction. Each group is expected to come up with five reasons for use of a PowerPoint presentation in the classroom. 08:45 – 09:00 Lecturing: Cognitive assumption of PP slide design & design principles 09:00 – 09:15 Demonstration of the basic steps in creating PowerPoint presentation 09:15 – 10:00 Mini-Tutorials on Fundamentals: PowerPoint. The subject area you will cover is "e-portfolio" (5-10 slides). 10:00 – 10:10 Break 10:10 – 11:10 Creating Power Point Presentation 11:10 – 12:00 Short Presentation & Instructor/peer feedback Assignment: For the next session you should have CV or Biography data. Google Sites (GS) : A free online software for basic Web design. Goal: The overall goal of the session is to introduce Google Sites. You will learn how to make and design website that will serve as your e-portfolio.

Objectives: Upon completion of the session four, you will be able to:  Create the following elements of Web site: - Web pages, - Link to other page, - Upload pictures  Publish Web site Class activities: 15:30 – 15:50 15:50 – 16:05 16:05 – 16:45 16:45 – 17:30 Brief discussion about e-portfolio (purpose, advantages/disadvantages, etc.) Demonstration of the basic steps in creating Web presentation Mini-Tutorials on Fundamentals: Google Sites Creating personal Website

TECHNOLOGY TRAINING SEMINAR: Using Technology to Contextualize and Integrate SS and ELL Instruction in the Classroom Overview of Web-Quest pedagogy and classroom use Participants, Working in Groups, Design Lesson Plans for using WebQuests Using the Strategy without Computers Power Point Presentations and Critique of Lesson Plans Objectives: The participants will be able to: - identify pedagogical approach to using WebQuests - identify the difference between traditional and student-centered approach to teaching - identify parts of WebQuest - develop their own Webquests - develop lesson plans for using WebQuests in their own classrooms - present their WebQuests

Activities (Novikova, Lazarevich assisting): - WebQuest introduction, including WebQuest articles overview, pedagogy behind it - Show examples of WebQuests - WebQuest structure introduction - Introduction of the assignment - Technology introduction - Work in groups (developing their WebQuests) - Presentations

Creating Resume & Publishing Web presentation Goal: In the first part of the session you will continue with developing your Web presentation and make draft version for publishing. In the second part of the session you will be introduced to the free online resume creator software “Resumizer”. At the very end of the class you will get basic knowledge how to use digital camera. Objectives: Upon completion of the session six, you will able to :     Publish Web presentation Use the online resume creator software Print out your resume Use digital camera

Class activities: 08:30 – 10:00 Adding text, pictures and links on the personal Web site by using GS software. 10:00 – 10:30 Short Presentation & Instructor/peer feedback LUNCH 13:00 – 13:15 Demonstration of how to use “Resumizer” 13:15 – 13:50 Mini-Tutorial on Fundamentals: “Resumizert” & building your resume. 13:50 – 14:00 Printing resume 14:00 – 14:30 Show the “Winner Movie” from last year as good examples of the filming technique, and then do a brief demonstration of how to use the digital camera effectively. After class: Check out Digital Cameras Class Assignment: 1. You should make a outline (scenario) for your Movie Project. 2. For the next class you need to bring at least one half of footage (it is the raw, unedited video material) necessary for the movie project. Microsoft Excel & Filming/Cameras-Basic Elements Goal: You will learn how to use a Excel application. In the second part of the session you will be introduced to Movie Maker and basic editing options.

Objectives: By the end of the session, workshop participants will be able to:  Know how to speak and write numerals in English.  Be familiar with Microsoft Excel program  Create columns and rows  Calculate numbers by using formulas  Create charts and tables  Print out final results or spreadsheet  Import video in Movie Maker Class activities: 13:30 – 14:00 Discuss reasons why Excel might be beneficial for your work. Each group is expected to come up with at least three reasons for use of a Excel application. 14:00 – 14:30 Demonstration of the basic steps in creating Excel spreadsheet and using formulas 14:30 – 15:30 Mini-Tutorials on Fundamentals: Excel 15:30 – 15:50 Presentation & feedback 15:50 – 16:00 Break 16:00 – 16:15 Brief overview of Movie scenarios 16:15 – 16:30 Demonstration of Movie Maker 16:30 – 17:00 Import video in Movie Maker Class Assignment: For the next class you need to prepare all necessary footage for you movie project. Movie Maker & Film Editing Goal: In this session you will learn how to use Movie Maker and gain proficiency in the use of basic and advanced features of editing tools. Objectives: Upon completion of the session eight, you will able to:  Import Video (pictures & audio)  Make titles & credits  Cut, split and add clips  Add transitions and video effect  Save and share Movie Class activities: 10:00 –10:30 Novikova will introduce pedagogy behind using movies in language classroom. 10:30 –10:45 Novikova will introduce the assignment 10:45 –11:00 Lazarevic will show how to use cameras 11:00 –12:00 The participants will be dismissed to shoot their raw footage 12:00 –12:30 Lunch 12:30 –13:00 Return to the computer lab. Lazarevic will start Movie Maker session. 13:00 –13:30 Import footage into Movie Maker 13:30 –18:00 Movie editing
