Dear Friends: It is exciting for me to be writing this letter. As most of you know, The Farm at Cape Kidnappers opened in November, 2007. The response to The Farm is phenomenal. Our guests love the property as much as our family does.
Our challenge was to live up to the reputation of Kauri Cliffs, but, at the same time, create a unique experience on the very beautiful 6,500-acre property at Cape Kidnappers in Hawke’s Bay. Relying on my experience as General Manager at Kauri Cliffs, I supervised all final construction details, handpicked all the staff, and coordinated the opening of the facilities. Interior designer, Linda Bedell of Aspen, Colorado was chosen by my parents to do the interiors at The Farm. Linda is a long time family friend who had worked with my parents before and she was selected because of her ability to create a comfortable but stylish atmosphere. Linda paid particular attention to the details in the lodge, suites, and rooms, and I worked to guarantee that every guest experience exceeded expectations. We are thrilled with what we have accomplished at The Farm, and I look forward to welcoming all of you in the very near future to both Kauri Cliffs and Cape Kidnappers.

THE FARM
Critics and devotees alike have fallen in love with Cape Kidnappers’ links-style golf course. Now that Kauri Cliffs’ sister property The Farm at Cape Kidnappers is open, golfers and non-golfers alike have a luxurious place to stay while exploring the wonders of Hawke’s Bay. From the exterior, the lodge resembles a cluster of farm buildings. Spacious cottages feature large private porches with breathtaking views. The award winning cuisine of Kauri Cliffs is matched at The Farm by the talents of our Group Executive Chef Dale Gartland with menus showcasing the bounty of Hawke’s Bay. No visit to Cape Kidnappers is complete without taking in our 6,500 acre property and getting close to all the farm activity. On a quad bike is one way to do that. But if you prefer a more leisurely pace, a personalized 4wd property tour, that showcases the spectacular vistas and our very own colony of Australasian Gannet sea birds, is for you. If hiking is of interest, our picturesque Lavender trail or more adventurous Rough Block track are for you. Other options range from clay target shooting to private wine tasting in our wine cellar. Indulge in a personal wine class with our resident Sommelier Simon McAuley. All of this without leaving The Farm.

$2.6 MILLION KIWI CHALLENGE TOURNAMENT COMES TO KAURI CLIFFS AND CAPE KIDNAPPERS - OCTOBER 27-28, 2008
ADAM SCOTT, BRANDT SNEDEKER, ANTHONY KIM AND HUNTER MAHAN DEBUT IN FIRST ‘KIWI CHALLENGE’
Together, they help define the future of golf. Adam Scott, Brandt Snedeker, Anthony Kim and Hunter Mahan are a foursome that represents a combination of 10 PGA TOUR victories. They have that special charisma that draws golf fans and television viewers. The fans have designated them “the future of golf.” The October 27-28 Kiwi Challenge features all four playing 18 holes each day over two days on two of the most stunning courses in the world, Kauri Cliffs and Cape Kidnappers, for a total purse of $2.6 million. NBC will televise the Kiwi Challenge Saturday, November 15 and Sunday, November 16 (USA). The players begin with 7,119-yard Kauri Cliffs. Designed by Orlando-based architect David Harman, Kauri Cliffs features 15 holes that view the Pacific Ocean. The inland holes are in pristine settings, winding through marsh, forest and farmland. From there, the players will take on Cape Kidnappers, the Tom Doak-designed course overlooking beautiful Hawke’s Bay that in four short years, has become one of the top golf courses in the world. Also measuring out at 7,119 yards, Cape Kidnappers was ranked 41st in the world by Golf Magazine, a fitting tribute for a course with holes that not only jut out dramatically over the Pacific, but bring a working farm into play. These are the seaside settings that await Scott, Kim, Snedeker and Mahan, settings that will test the shot-making abilities of these four young stars.

INTRODUCING GROUP EXECUTIVE CHEF DALE GARTLAND
What started as a summer abroad for Chef Dale Gartland has turned into four successful years in New Zealand. As Group Executive Chef, Dale now oversees both Kauri Cliffs and Cape Kidnappers. Born in England, Dale trained in his home county of Shropshire. After graduation, Dale worked at two hotels in the Lake District and Somerset, both with a reputation for outstanding cuisine. In 1999 Dale landed his big break – the opportunity to work with his idol Chef Michael Caines at Relais & Chateaux, Relais Gourmand property, Gidleigh Park. To this day, Gartland regards Michael Caines as a major influence in his career. During his time at Kauri Cliffs, Dale gained valuable
experience with the best chefs and top kitchens in the world, including Peter Gordon at Providores, Gary Rhodes at 24, Brad Farmerie at Public and Thomas Keller at Per Se. 2008 will be no different for Dale, as he is overseeing our Food & Wine weekends in August and will again be working with top industry identities to ensure that guests experience the finest in local cuisine. Dale is excited about the style of cuisine at The Farm and Kauri Cliffs and the bountiful local produce, fresh meats and seafoods available in both regions mean that he and his team have so many menu options. When Dale moved to the Hawke’s Bay he immersed himself in the area, meeting with local farmers and forming relationships with the growers and producers, and his menu reflects the best the area has to offer.
