 Recommendations: Target Needs
    of Pre-Doctoral Members
• Get senior/educated members to
  identify/encourage participation
  by newer engineers
• Create pragmatic/practical educational/tutorial
content (adding to existing technical content)
and content delivery methods designed to
meet needs of engineers at all levels
• Create/strengthen mechanisms for individuals
with less education or new to the discipline to
  participate

Recommendations: Participation and
  Affiliation Leads To Satisfaction

 • Create mechanisms to allow the average member to
participate in the Society so that a sense of belonging
   or affiliation can be established
 • Explore online methods for creating community or
participation given the overall favorability by
   respondents for electronic communication and
   information.
 • Identify barriers to participation and actively create
   means of reducing these barriers.

          Recommendations:
          Market Membership
• IEEE SSCS has a track record of providing quality
technical content. Yet high market penetration has
not been reached. SSCS needs to identify key
  educational, research, and commercial institutions.
Target their leadership for membership and
  participation.
• Consider marketing membership, products and
services to companies similar to those that already
  employ SSCS members.
   – For US and Canada, use North American Industry
Classification System (NAICS) code to identify the types
of companies that employ existing members.
   – Research any similar system for identifying global firms.

                     Chapters

• Evaluate the necessity of chapters. While they
represent opportunities for local participation, the
investment necessary to establish an effective
chapter network, communicate its existence and
modify exiting negative perceptions may be too
  difficult to achieve success.
• Allow for self-forming communities or groups
  supported with centralized technology and/or
resources that can start and stop based on actual
  participant interest.
