                                                  Etiquette in the Catholic Church: 
      •   Entering the church: it is optional to bless yourself with holy water, but as a sign of respect for the Blessed Sacrament, 
          genuflect toward the tabernacle before taking your seat.  
      •   Quiet time: Immediately before, during (including the sign of peace), AND after the liturgy is not the time to socialize with 
          friends. Visiting is an important aspect of our faith community and is to be encouraged ‐‐ but should NOT OCCUR in the 
          church itself ‐please use the hallway or outside one of the church entrances, or another convenient gathering place to do so. 
      •   Please turn off or silence cell phone and pagers  
      •   Please wear appropriate clothing—even/especially during the summer, modesty is a beautiful practice! Generally avoid 
          clothing with texts, phrases, pictures, etc. 
      •   Please remember chewing gum by anyone (any age, Catholic or not) is not acceptable ever, at any time, and especially during 
          Mass out of respect and the Communion fast. 
      •   Sign of Peace: People usually shake hands or exchange a quick kiss, but if you have a cold or cough, you can politely say, 
          “Peace be with you,” without shaking hands.  
      •   Communion: Only active Catholics who are not aware of any un‐confessed serious sin should present themselves for 
          Communion. In charity (and to save them any embarrassment) they should properly instruct any non‐catholic guests about 
          our practice and belief in the Eucharist.  Catholics should come forward to receive the holy Eucharist with reverence, bow 
          slightly and respond “Amen.” Please do not leave immediately after receiving Communion (excepting of course emergency or 
          TRUE necessity) 
      •   Please participate in the Mass, Body, Mind and Spirit singing, speaking, praying, attending within the heart and in the body.
