Revision of functions from previous sessions.
SESSION 3 New Functions: Framesets, Opening Files within Frames, Targets,
                                Visual Display Aids

Step 1. From the Windows desktop run the Dreamweaver program.

You may have seen on other web sites that the top part of the page remains on the screen and only the
bottom part changes once you click on a link, this is controlled by a Frameset. We will create a page
and insert a Top and Bottom Frameset, this will allow us to open our Top.htm file in the top part of
the page and the Main.htm in the bottom part of the page.

Step 2. Create a new page, this time apply the Framesets layout for the page. Set the Frameset to
        Fixed Top.

CREATE FRAMESET PAGE
a. Click on File from the main menu
b. Click on New from the next menu
c. Click on Frameset from the
   Category area
d. Click on Fixed Top from the
   Framesets area
e. Click on the Create button
Now you have a page that is divided
into two.

Step 3. Click in the top Frame to
        make the Frame active.

Step 4. Open the Top.htm page within this Frame.

OPENING FILES WITHIN FRAMES
* Ensure to have the frame selected by placing
   the cursor in it
a. Click on File from the main menu
b. Click on Open in Frame from the next menu
* The Select HTML File window appears
c. Ensure the Dream2 folder is selected for the
   Look In area
d. Click on the Top.htm file to select it
e. Click on the Ok button
* A message may appear
f. Click on the Ok button
* The Top.htm page appears in the top frame

                                                            Simple Dreamweaver MX: Advanced
                                                                                         Guide 2 of 2

Step 5. Click in the bottom Frame to make it active. Open the Main.htm page in this Frame.
(Click on File, click on Open in Frame, click on Main.htm, click on the Ok button,
click on the Ok button if a message appears)
Now you have two pages opened within two Frames on this one page.

Step 6. Click in the top Frame and read the Title bar. Notice it is informing you that you are in
        contact with the Top.htm page.

Step 7. Click in the bottom Frame and read the Title bar. Notice it is informing you that you are
in contact with the Main.htm page.
We will perform the Save All function, the Top.htm page and Main.htm page will be saved
automatically as there has been no changes made to these two pages, you will be promoted to save the
entire page being the Frameset and give it a name.

Step 8. Perform the Save All function and call the Untitled-Frameset page Start. (Click on File,
click on Save All, when the Untitled Frameset page is prompted in the Filename area
change it to Start, click on the Save button)

Step 9. Close the page.

Step 10. Open the Start.htm page. Preview the page in the
         browser then close the browser.
We will work with the Top.htm page.

Step 11. Edit the text for each button and make it Size 16 so it
is clearer to read. (Right-click on the button, click on
the Edit option, click in the Size area and enter 16, click on the
Apply button, click on the Ok button) Repeat for each button.

Step 12. Perform the Save function.

Should the save function not be available for some reason, click on the Save As option instead and
click on the Ok button to overwrite the existing file.

Step 13. Add a Hyperlink to the Events button that will open the Events page. (Right-click on the
Events Button, click on the Edit option, click on the Link Browse button, click on
Events.htm, click on the Ok button, click on the Ok button)

Step 14. Preview the page in the browser and activate
         the Events link.
Notice the Events.htm page appeared in the top frame, we will edit the link and set the Target to
mainFrame so the Events.htm page will open in the main part of this page.

Step 15. Close the browser.
