In departing I leave a Legacy For the sons and daughters Who will live after me Neither Gold nor Silver Nor fortune or fame Has a share in the Legacy Left in my name Neither do I leave Great accomplishments and deeds Nor honors or status Or acquired degrees Nor leave you I On the day that I die Answers to deep questions Like who, when or why I leave you no comforts To lighten heavy loads; No guideposts to steer you Along life’s’ winding roads I leave you no cautions Against folly or crime; No philosophical treatises To ease the passing of time Of religious devotions And of worshipping gods I bow to your discretion And to each give a nod The Legacy I leave To both foolish and wise “Search your soul for true answers Let the Holy Spirit be your guide”
