First Annual International Juried Group Art Show Jan Mellor, owner of the taos gallery, is excited to announce the First Annual International Juried Group Art Show to be held in the Gallery on the Green at the Taos Country Club. Gallery on the Green’s inception was originally with local artist the late Betsy Carey who offered the Gallery on the Green as a showcase gallery for the artists she featured in her Taos News column “Local Color.” After her passing in spring of 2008, Mellor was asked to curate a show in Betsy’s memory. This opened the door to Mellor curating future shows. “As the owner of the taos gallery my focus there is primarily on local art. The Gallery on the Green offers me the opportunity to give national and international artists the chance to show their art in Taos – the original art colony of the southwest - while giving our community a chance to see what is happening in the art world outside of Taos.” “Our decision was overwhelming when we saw the caliber of fine art submitted”, says Kristin Jones , the taos gallery manager, “I am really excited to have been involved with this project from the beginning and believe that it will bring something special to Taos.” The Call for Artist was only promoted on the taos gallery website and within 3 months over 100 artist had submitted images of their works. The field was narrowed down to 40 representing 14 states and 3 countries. The exhibition will open at Gallery on the Green with a reception on March 6th from 5:30 - 7:30 pm and will hang through the end of April. The grand finale, an Award Ceremony, will held at the taos gallery on May 8th 5:30-7:30pm. Both events are open to the public. Local jurors Ray Vinella and William (Bill) Davis bring their vast expertise and experience to the exhibition, both having juried art shows , taught art classes and are working artists themselves. Awards will be given in the following categories, with a possible opportunity to be represented by the taos gallery: Best in Show – Solo Exhibition –the taos gallery choice Most Creative – juror’s choice Best Use of Medium - jurors’ choice
