							    Announcement – Memorandum of Understanding
Bathurst, June 21st, 2007

The RPC (New Brunswick Research and Productivity Council) and the Metal Innovation and
Technology Transfer Center (MITTC) of the CCNB-Campus de Bathurst have agreed to put
their common efforts together in sharing expertise, and that their respective institutions should
enter into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). This MOU would help both groups in
creating a larger impact on common projects in the interest of the economic development of the
province. Both parties feel that this agreement will not only be beneficial to both groups but also
to all enterprise wishing to innovate and develop new products.

The purpose of this MOU is to:

    1) Optimize the services available to support New Brunswick industry.
    2) Improve the capacity and capabilities of both organizations.
    3) Optimize the use of resources in the province.

RPC’s strength is to provide technical services and an accredited laboratory to benefit industries
in New Brunswick and abroad. With regards to the metal sector, RPC’s areas of expertise
include prototype design and manufacture, physical metallurgy, material selection and welding
procedure qualification. The benefits for RPC through this cooperative agreement is to unit their
efforts into a common goal and to obtain the maximum service possible by either group.

MITTC is positioning itself to become a regional asset for product development and innovation
in the metal industry and other related sectors incorporating metal as part of their technological
advancements. The benefits for MITTC through this cooperative effort are provided through the
strategic planning of projects and activities with RPC. MITTC expertise includes product
development and technology transfer, applied R&D assistance to SMEs, technical expertise
through the CCNB - Campus de Bathurst and a presence in Northern New Brunswick.

The mutual benefits for both parties is to expand the types and scope of applied research
projects relating to the metal sector, to offer a more complete package to their respective client
base, and to assist the Province, whenever feasible, in such initiatives.

The services offered by MITTC are aimed at business needs including technical support for the
development and improvement of processes/products, tailored training, information sharing and
assistance in innovation projects.

The fields of interest for collaboration shall include but not be limited to:

           Applied research and technology transfer;
           Development of new products, processes and technologies;
           Prototyping;
           Advanced Machining;
           Accredited Laboratory Testing;
           Technological watch;
           Specialized Training;
           Improved Business Networking.
