The program is a community-based turnkey program that provides every community the opportunity to play in an organized NFL noncontact football league Available nationwide, participation has grown over the past seven years to over 100,000 registered participants Participants are eligible to compete in a regional tournament hosted by the NFL, with a chance to advance to the NFL Flag National Championships. National Championships will be held in November at the Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex and will be broadcast on ESPN and ESPN2 (December and January). • • NFL Flag Football Program Overview (cont.) • • • Registration promotions are executed in May and June, before school is out and in August during Back-to-School/Preseason ESPN is the national media and promotional sponsor through 2005 The NFL will host (8) regional NFL Flag tournaments (to qualify for the National Championships) in New York, Baltimore, Cleveland, Chicago, Miami, Houston, San Francisco, and Las Vegas in October and November of 2003 • Tournaments are open to all registered NFL Flag participants nationwide NFL Flag Football • NFLyouthfootball.com - Overview All registered leagues, teams, coaches, players and parents receive their own customized NFL Flag web page. The system provides seamless top to bottom, and bottom to top, communication of schedules, highlights, accomplishments, announcements, practice curriculum, menu of plays, NFL news, etc. Sponsors have the opportunity to deliver customized and targeted messages, announcements and direct mail marketing campaigns to all 100,000 participants, 10,000+ teams, 5,000+ leagues and 150,000+ parents. • NFL Flag Football NFL Flag Equipment & Benefits for Each Participant • NFL team-identified jersey • NFL team-identified football (2 per team of 10) • Personal NFL Flag web pages on nflyouthfootball.com provided for every participant, coach, team, league, official and parent • Coaches will have access to an NFL Flag Coaching Guide • Kids receive an NFL Playbook through nflyouthfootball.com Boomer Esiason Foundation • A portion of NFL Flag proceeds benefit the Boomer Esiason Foundation for Cystic Fibrosis. Boomer Esiason is the National Spokesperson for NFL Flag 2003 Punt, Pass & Kick NFL Punt, Pass & Kick Concept • Since 1961 boys and girls have participated in this national skills competition in punting, passing, and place kicking. No registration fees are required to enter any phase of this competition. It is the most well known youth sports competition in the world. Many current NFL players participated in PP&K as youngsters. Overview • Nationwide participation has topped 4,000,000 with local and school competitions combined. • Over 6000 local competitions are run through schools (4 week program) as well as, 3,000+ local park and recreation centers, during the months of August and September. • Open to boys and girls (compete in separate divisions) ages 8-15. NFL Punt, Pass & Kick Overview (cont.) • The core participant base allows the Sponsor to cross-promote many different organizational initiatives. • Team championships are held during halftime of a NFL home game in all 32 NFL markets during the months of November and December. • National Finals are held during an AFC Divisional playoff game (at halftimes) in January, and are aired on CBS Sports. 2003 Junior Player Development NFL Junior Player Development Objectives JPD serves two major objectives: NFL’s Official Youth Coach’s Development Program provides 60+ hours of practical training in how to properly teach all of the game fundamentals, and how to creatively and effectively apply life skill messages NFL’s Official Instructional Tackle Program for kids ages 12-15 years old. All participants are introduced and taught every position through a progression of fundamentals training over 12 scheduled two-hour practices. NFL Junior Player Development Concept • Will make up for the diminishing number of middle school programs across the country (82% of all JPD participants continue to play high school football.) • The first step in rebuilding youth tackle football as an effective feeder system for high school programs. • The program provides the full experience of youth tackle football instructional and developmental training through innovative and easy to apply methods. • Every participant receives counseling through a life skills / character development curriculum which is incorporated throughout all on-field activities. • JPD also provides a helpful set of tools for coaches (over 60 hours of interactive training) and league administrators to enhance an already existing team and league or launch a new one. The program provides youth coaches all the tools necessary to teach the fundamentals correctly in a fun and entertaining manner, while focusing on every participant equally. NFL Junior Player Development Forecast - 2004 Sites • NFL Youth Programs will continue to have direct involvement in the existing JPD sites and will extend the program to 56 (6- week program) sites in 27 NFL markets. After successfully launching JPD this past spring at Rice University with 164 kids the City has committed to split the total cost with the NFL in order to expand the spring program to include 450 kids participating throughout Houston. This will be followed by the Houston School system fully funding and implementing JPD into their entire fall middle school football program. •The Houston Independent School District is also requiring all 110 of their middle school coaches to be trained through the JPD curriculum. •The school system has also agreed to place a Houston Texans JPD patch on every middle school football player and coach in the City of Houston. NFL Junior Player Development New Orleans • The New Orleans Public School System has arranged to have Junior Player Development implemented into all 18 of their middle schools beginning the fall of 2003. This will mark the first time that organized tackle football will be available to middle school students in the New Orleans Public Schools. There will be (3) instructional sites, reaching 450 students, set to begin play in spring 2003. A structured competitive league will follow in fall 2003. 2003 NFL High School Player Development NFL High School Player Development Concept • Providing incoming, fall season sophomores - seniors, throughout an entire urban-based community, a program that focuses on academic counseling and specific football skill training by position. Each participant gains full awareness of what is necessary to become a successful collegiate student-athlete, along with the resources and information to meet NCAA Clearinghouse requirements. • Working in partnership with “Play it Smart” (NFF) to provide seamless on and off field service to high school players throughout club marketplace. NFL High School Player Development Objectives • Increase exposure of urban-based, high school football players • Provide additional access to academic counseling and dispersion of information (core class review, transcript review, NCAA Clearinghouse requirements, etc.) • Decrease player to instructor ratio for on-field training (allows for more specialized instruction) • Increase access to academic records for college recruiters • Improve academic and fundamental skill level of all program participants NFL High School Player Development NFLyouthfootball.com (Overview - Involvement) E-Mentoring Concept • The NFL Youth Football’s official web-based communication infrastructure • Access to 20,000+ high school players, coaches, and administrators within 11 selected markets through existing spring football programs as well as NFL designed and operated program sites. • All NFL HSPD participants have the opportunity through their own personal web page (via Active.com) to receive satellite instruction and mentoring from a group of NFL-selected experts in the areas of: – – – – – – – – – Strength and Conditioning Speed Training Academic Counseling Fundamental Skill Advice (by position) Health and Safety College (Standardized Test) Preparation Life Skill Mentoring Instructional Video Streaming (by position) Communication with former and current NFL players and coaches NFL High School Player Development Planned 2004 Sites NFL Youth Football will have direct involvement in the following HSPD sites. 2004 Markets Oakland (1) Boston/NE (1) Washington, D.C.
