oBIX XML TC Working meeting Minutes
June 13, 2010, 10:00am – 11:00am (CST)

Attendees:
Dave Richards – Trane
Craig Gemmill - Tridium
Aaron Hanson - Conrolco
Brian Frank - Tridium

Summary
Brian’s three questions (see http://www.oasis-open.org/apps/org/workgroup/obix-
xml/email/archives/200711/msg00003.html) were discussed and the decisions were:
 Use “tz” as the name for time zone identifier.
 Use the full “<area>/<location>” string defined by the Olson database rather than
the shorter “<location>”. This was done to maintain consistency since it was
unclear if there would be problems using the short form.
 The default time zone if none is specified will be the server time zone which may
be retrieved from the lobby (will be added).

A schedule for release of the next spec version was discussed. The plan is to finalize
desired changes to the core spec before the end of the year and produce a draft shortly
thereafter. It is desired to complete work on the scheduling component by the end of
February 2008 with a draft document to follow.

The notion of a “choice” construct/datatype was discussed but no compelling argument
was made to pursue this path. The LON community is expected to provide a list of items
that they would like to see added/fixed relative to the core oBIX spec, so further
discussion may happen at that time.

The balance of the meeting was discussing the tasks needed to complete the effort for
iCalendar support. The major issue is the mapping to oBIX of the necessary iCalendar
types. This is basically the VEVENT and things used by VEVENT. The major push for
next meeting will be to reach agreement on this mapping.

Action Items
 Brian will create a draft of an updated core spec.

Next Meeting
Next meeting will be either December 12 or 19.
