The text is organised into 14 chapters (1 of which is actually 2 separate chapters). Chapter 1, "The Role and Importance of Research," and Chapter 2, "The Research Process: Coming to Terms," cover the basics of the scientific method and concepts in research methods, respectively. Chapter 3 is actuaUy 2 quite separate chapters: Chapter 3A, "Selecting a Problem and Reviewing the Research," and Chapter 3B, "The Importance of Practicing Ethics in Research." The first covers how to use Ubrary and online resources and how to focus research interests. The second chapter, 3B, which is new to this edition, deals with "ethical practices and ethical concerns in research" (p. xvii). Chapter 4, "Sampling and GeneraUzability," Chapter 5, "Measurement, ReUabiUty and VaUdity," and Chapter 6, "Methods of Measuring Behavior," cover basic topics in sampling, measurement, and types of measures, respectively. Chapter 7 "Data CoUection and Descriptive Statistics," and Chapter 8, "Introducing Inferential Statistics," introduce concepts in these areas of statistics. The next 4 chapters, Chapter 9, "Nonexperimental Research: Descriptive and Correlational Methods," Chapter 10, "Nonexperimental Research: Quatative Methods," Chapter 11, "Pre- and True Experimental Research Methods," and Chapter 12, "Quasi-Experimental Research: A Close Cousin to Experimental Research," deal with these different types of research methods. The last 2 chapters, Chapter 13, "Writing a Research Proposal," and Chapter 14, "Writing a Research Manuscript," review the steps in planning and writing a research proposal and in preparing a manuscript for submission to ajournai for pubUcation.
