The energy change of this reaction, δ^sub Mg-Sn^, is a model parameter which is expanded as an empirical function of composition and temperature. The Gibbs energy of mixing of the liquid solution is given in Equation 2, where X^sub Mg-Sn^ is the fraction of all pairs which are [Mg-Sn] pairs and where ΔS^sup config^ is a configurational entropy term which is expressed as a function of X^sub Mg-Sn^ using an Ising model.
