Cermet anodes consist of a ceramic phase and a metal phase. Cermets are attractive since they combine the advantages of ceramic (desirable for their chemical inertness) and metals (desirable for their high electrical conductivity and mechanical properties). The ceramic phase was general ferrite, such as Ni^sub x^Fe^sub 3-x^O^sub 4^, Ni^sub y^Fe^sub 1-y^O, NiFe^sub 2^O^sub 4^+-^NiO, ZnFe^sub 2^0^sub 4^+ZnO, and Ni^sub x^Fe^sub 2y^Zn^sub z^O^sub (3y+x+zδ)^.
