The Central Plains Region of the National Archives and Records Administration has a new home in Kansas City, MO. After searching for a higher profile location, it has moved enough records to fill about 25,000 file cabinet drawers to a new location near Kansas City's historic Union Station. According to The Kansas City Star, the archives occupy 39,000 square feet of an old freight building. An additional 5,000 square feet of new exhibit space was built adjacent to that building to house three galleries. All galleries are free to the public. One features a welcome center detailing the National Archives' history and allows the public to take rubbings of the signatures of famous historical figures,
