Approximately 50 inmates have benefited from the dedicated pharmacy students through tutoring, medication assistance and explanation, and discussions dealing with anger management, substance abuse and financial management (such as how to balance a checkbook). Since the number of incarcerated adults with increased medical needs, particularly in mental health, continues to grow, it is imperative that doctoral pharmacy students have first-hand knowledge of the challenges of meeting these medical needs.
