Projects include the use of solar power and wind turbines, biomass boilers, lighting upgrades, water conservation retrofits, heating and cooling equipment replacements and many others. The BOP's continued efforts to "green" its facilities by adopting more sustainable building practices is expected to further reduce resource and energy consumption, lifecycle costs, and waste released into the environment, while simultaneously improving quality of life for staff and inmates alike.
