Over the past decade, Google has revolutionized the Internet. In January 2007, two former Google employees set out to spur a similar transformation in the weather management industry. In order for weather coverage to be useful, it needs to be customizable, said David Friedberg, San Francisco-based WeatherBill's 28-year-old CEO. The goal of Friedberg, along with WeatherBill CTO and former Google engineer Siraj Khaliq, was simple yet ambitious as they set out to create an interface rooted in meteorological data and powered by mathematics that allowed end users to create specialized coverage for their precise risks. While WeatherBill does underwrite many of the policies it offers, much of the coverage bought through the company is provided by other carriers.
