As we head down the shore for Memorial Day - oh, watch that guy on the left, he's drifting lanes; hey, buddy, the limit's 65 - there's a lot to commemorate. And a lot to look forward to - such as the up-and-comers who don't just twitter away their time, but plan for the future. Such as Jacob Finkel, one of only a handful to be named winner of the 2009 Seltzer Family Digital Media Award, handed out by the University of Pennsylvania Libraries to students with electrifying electronic possibilities. Libraries overseers Jeff and Annie Seltzer are benefactors of the fund, which entitles winning Penn students a year's use of modern techno equipment. Imagine if Penn founder Ben Franklin had such backers instead of someone who gave him a kite and a key, and told him to go fly it. ... Now, here's a Quaker who's flying high: Soccer star Jake Levin has gotten the succor he deserves; the Penn frosh has been named winner of the Peter K. Riley Award for Outstanding Freshman Male Athlete/'09. ...
