The knowledge and skills required range from basic computer skills, to enable staff to operate user-friendly interfaces on applications, to the expertise of PACS or RIS managers requiring an understanding of the database management, knowledge of database integrity requirements, and the ability to apply principles of information governance. Conclusion Several key action points have been identified in this article, namely: * The need for radiographers to increase their awareness of IT principles and technology * The need for the radiography academic curriculum to further accommodate information technologies * The need for certified or post-graduate courses on IM&T and PACS management to be developed * More consideration of patient safety issues, particularly related to information governance issues.
