Chris Kemmer, research consultant, CK Marketing, wanted to know how fleets were maximizing oil drains these days. Kemmer surveyed a variety of carriers including: truckload, less-than-truck-load, private and utility fleets to disclose their practices. Some of the comments are: 1. Track mileage and hours of use. 2. Conduct proper inspections. 3. Maintain designated intervals with notification to drivers. 4. Use oil purification system and oil analysis. 5. Determine oil drain interval using oil analysis. Whatever your current oil drain practice, there may be room for improvement. Investing in oil analysis, for instance, may help extend drains and cut operating costs.
