According to Cost Cutting in IT, a study by Gartner Inc, the current economic situation calls for changes in managing IT spending. Gartner suggests companies follow six steps in putting together a cost-cutting initiative. These are: 1. Don't wait for a cost-cutting mandate from management. 2. Choose the best and the brightest on an IT staff. 3. Quash any negativity by team members. 4. Enlist an internal auditor as scorekeeper. 5. Report results on a weekly basis that depicts savings achieve since that last weekly report, along with aggregate year-to-date savings. 6. Request that the general counsel assign the attorney to the IT cost-cutting team who is most familiar with all prevailing IT contractual obligations.
