Manufacturing is a team sport where communication, coordination and desire are king. As industrial engineers, the academic training is focused on local and global optimization of processes and a variety of analytical tools and systems. But behind those tools and systems are people: operators, technicians, supervisors and engineers. They make the magic happen in a factory. When they work together and communicate effectively, good things happen. Team dynamics has been an active field for a while. But more fundamental to the success of any manufacturing organization is a requisite attention to detail and dedication to the job. A good team is greater than the sum of its parts, but it is often as weak as its weakest link.
