"Serious Materials weatherization brochure"
GeT SeriOuS Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) Mission Statement To reduce energy costs for lowincome families by improving the energy efficiency of their homes while ensuring their health and safety. “We’ll also lead a revolution the efficiency of more than 2 About Maximizing Energy Efficiency in energy efficiency, modernizing more than 75 percent of federal buildings and improving million American homes. This will not only create jobs, it will cut the federal energy bill by a third and save taxpayers $2 billion each year and save Americans billions of dollars more on their utility bills.” President Obama’s remarks at the Department of Energy February 9, 2009 Serious Materials manufactures sustainable green building materials that save energy, save money, improve occupant comfort, and aggressively address climate change. . commercial www.seriousmaterials.com of low-income homes using the most advanced technologies and testing protocols available in the housing industry, WAP delivers important benefits: • Significant, cost-effective energy savings •. No- and low-cost reductions in greenhouse emissions • Manufacturing jobs for production of efficient equipment and materials • Construction / installation jobs • Increased household comfort and energy cost savings • Household health and safety benefits (e.g. reduction of lead paint exposures associated with old windows) • Reduction in the nation’s dependence on foreign oil In improving the energy efficiency How Serious Materials Can Help Recognizing that high performance windows and insulating drywall have generally not played a major role in WAP, Serious Materials works closely with leading local action agencies, States, the DOE and others to help ensure the full and proper consideration of high-performance, low cost windows, and to assist with analysis and other support in crafting effective, economic implementation measures. New WAP Resources Over the past three decades, WAP has weatherized over 3.3 million homes. The DOE estimates more than 15 million low income households still require weatherization. With legislative limits on average investment per home and today’s rapid advances in efficient technology, not all cost-effective measures have necessarily been made even at the homes previously weatherized. The proposed American recovery and reinvestment Act would address both of these issues by: • Increasing funding from about $0.2 billion in 2008 to $5 billion for 2009 • Doubling the average investment, allowed per household enables more complete implementation of cost-effective measures Challenges for WAP With the increase in total funding and lifting of per-household investment allowance come challenges for WAP. These include: • Scaling up, and doing so rapidly • Assessing a more complete range of cost-effective measures, and not just lowest cost items • Ensuring that the WAP audit tools accurately represent the cost and performance of currently available efficient technology and services • Revising State and agency WAP plans and agreements where necessary www.seriousmaterials.com SeriousWindows ® SAVES MORE ENERGY THAN ANY OTHER WINDOW. PERIOD. Windows are the biggest source of heating and cooling energy loss in homes. Up to 40% of heating, ventilation, and air condition (HVAC) costs are lost through inefficient windows. With full frame R-values of R-5, SeriousWindows can reduce heating and cooling costs by up to 30%*. Serious Materials will work with installers to support high-volume, logistically efficient installation program you need and can facilitate training and recruitment. ThermaRock ® SUPER-INSULATED DRYWALL TO REDUCE ENERGY COSTS BY UP TO 30% ThermaRock is the first insulating aerogel drywall that reduces a building’s energy use for operations and offers a simple solution to insulate walls in constrained locations. Standard gypsum drywall provides little thermal insulation, with an R-value of about 0.5. ThermaRock panels deliver R-values between R-2.5 to R-4.1. Adding one layer of ThermaRock to an existing exterior wall can substantially reduce energy costs and improve occupant comfort. "enhancing windows efficiency is a major step forward in achieving net-zero homes," said DOE's Marc LaFrance, manager for Building Envelope and Windows R&D programs. "Windows in the United States are costing consumers approximately $35 billion per year in energy. The next generation of windows could reduce this by more than half." Creating Green Collar Jobs Serious Materials recently acquired assets of former Kensington Windows in Vandergrift, Pennsylvania. The Kensington acquisition and additional expansions in Colorado and California, are driving a 10-fold increase in manufacturing capacity for Serious Materials’ product lines. * According to internal modeling with ResFen software & modeling parameters established by the Efficient Windows Collaborative www.seriousmaterials.com Serious Materials Helps You Meet Industry Standards that Matter D E V SeriousWindows ® DAYLIGHT ENERGY SAVING VENTILATION/THERMAL COMFORT NOISE REDUCING RECYCLED & RECYCLEABLE MATERIALS LOW VOC LOW EMBODIED ENERGY N D R ThermaRock ® E L V L SUPER-INSULATED DRYWALL TO REDUCE ENERGY COSTS BY UP TO 30% N LEGEND DAYLIGHT ENERGY SAVING VENTILATION/THERMAL COMFORT R L L "The next time Obama thinks about visiting a company that epitomizes what he thinks the green economy should look like, may we humbly suggest Serious Materials of Sunnyvale."
