The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science of Longwood University invites
applications for two tenure-track positions in mathematics education to begin August 2008.

Professional responsibilities focus on teaching undergraduate mathematics education courses for prospective
secondary teachers, mathematics content courses for prospective K-8 teachers, and graduate mathematics
education courses for K-8 mathematics specialists. Faculty members generally teach four courses per
semester and are also expected to advise effectively, to make service contributions, and to engage in
scholarship and professional activity. The supervision of student teachers and teaching general education
mathematics courses may be required at times. Strong mathematics background and successful college and
K-12 teaching experience are preferred. Ph.D. or Ed.D. in mathematics education is preferred, ABD
considered. Salary and rank are commensurate with credentials and experience.

Mathematics education has always been a mission of the university. The Department offers Bachelor’s
degrees in Mathematics and Computer Science, with teacher licensure in mathematics. The mathematics
education faculty in the Department, under the College of Arts and Sciences, coordinate with the College of
Education and Human Services to certify mathematics majors (6-12) and Liberal Studies majors (K-8). For

Longwood University, founded in 1839, is a coeducational state-supported comprehensive institution with
approximately 4000 students. It is located in historic Farmville, Virginia, 60 miles west of Richmond.
