CASE STUDY OF SUCCESS
You will conduct research using social science research methods, to determine how an adult in your community has succeeded in
achieving a goal.
1. Select a successful individual who you are interested in studying. This individual will be the subject of your research: (e.g. an
athlete, a business owner, a public figure, a teacher, etc…)

2. Now ask a specific research question about the achievement of goals.

3. Design an interview consisting of a few open-ended questions that will get the data needed to answer the research question.
Include questions about long-term goals and short-term goals, ensuring goals are SMART, and overcoming obstacles.

step.)
4. Arrange a time when you can meet or talk to (over the phone, e-mail) the subject of your study. Plan how you will record your
answers before you conduct the interview.
*(Your parents and/or guardians must be aware of your plans and must sing the permission form attached before you continue with
your interview).
5. Organize your data so that you can compare, summarize, and analyse the data.
6. Compare your data to what you have learned about setting and achieving goals.
7. Write a brief, three-paragraph case study about your subject in which you describe how the subject of your interview succeeded.
Include in your report:
Introduction of subject and her/his goal
Method (how you gathered your data)
Evidence from your interview
Your comparison with what you have learned in class
Conclusion (how the individual’s success story can help others)
Add an interesting title to your report
