Strategies and techniques in the development of multicultural career counseling skills and competencies are discussed. The focus is on instructional applications which may enhance student learning. This expansive and inclusive definition of career development contemporaneously informs the way in which the construct is now articulated. The process of career development includes the individual's entire life span, incorporating the varying life roles, contexts, environmental opportunities and barriers, cultural reference points, racial/ethnic implications, gender variables, sexual orientation status, and disability status. This article is thus framed to provide the counselor educator or practitioner trainer with instructional strategies and techniques which will hopefully aid you in providing your students a foundation within which they can begin to build their multicultural career counseling skills and competencies. The incorporation of career and multicultural counseling constructs requires hard work, creativity, and dedication. The rewards can be exceptionally self-affirming from an instructional perspective.
