Relationships with students over the years and helping them become career counselors is one of the most enjoyable and important things the author has ever done. In this article, the author will begin with a description of some of his early experiences, both as a counselor trainee and a trainer, and then focus on his ideas about a systems approach to training that involves a combination of didactic learning in the classroom and experiential activities outside of it. Finally, the author will reflect on some of the issues in career counselor training and his hopes for the future. His goal is to help those now taking the reins of leadership in the education and training of career counselors to avoid mistakes of the past and become energized for the future.
