According to ACA's Web site, the Correctional Certification Program was "designed to advance the overall knowledge level of practitioners in the corrections field, promote the capabilities of corrections professionals to the public, and enhance society's image of corrections personnel and, thereby, aid in the recruitment of new, talented staff members." Financial recognition for employees participating in the ACA certification program can reach as high as $1,500 in Louisiana, based upon the employee's completion of all assigned tasks. Because Louisiana offers both financial incentives and approved time away from work to participate in the exam process, Louisiana had for many years the most ACA-certified correctional employees in the nation.
