Although the price premium for diesel in the United States is expected to come down, continued growth of demand for diesel fuel in developing countries, along with environmental policies that favor increased use of diesel as a substitute marine bunker fuel used to power locomotives and oceangoing ships, among other uses, suggest that diesel fuel "may continue to be priced at a premium relative to gasoline in the United States," the report said.
