Some fleets are passionate about doing their own basic preventive maintenance, others are happy to outsource some or all of their maintenance to a service provider. A very small number of the fleets responding plan to outsource more in this environment -- only 7% said that they have turned over more maintenance to an outsource provider. A larger percentage, 17%, actually plan to bring more work in-house as a result of the slow economy. The largest group, 76%, stated that their practices are unchanged. It would also seem from the survey response that once a maintenance facility is established and manned with trained technicians, most fleets would prefer to maximize that operation rather than push more work to outside vendors.
