December 2005 Issue 12 briefings http://www.slcwingsandwheels.com Chairman Col. Not that 2005 was a bad year, actually it was pretty good. In May Wings ‘N Wheels was a huge hit then in October the community faired fairly well following Hurricane Wilma. It’s just that I keep referring to the ’05 show as the ‘show last year’, when in fact it’s still this year! I will be happy when I can say ‘last years show’ and it will actually be true! Although I expect this relief to be short-lived because by the time January 3rd arrives, it will hit me…only 83 days left ‘til show time! Those 83 days will fly by fast and before we know it, ‘Wings’ will be upon us, with phenomenal performances by world-class performers, national champions and jets from the Military. Between now and then there are a few ‘Wings’ events planned that are worth mentioning, the first of which is the annual Sponsor Reception, January 12th hosted by Jet Service Center at the newly re-opened Flight Deck Café. There, an exclusive preview of the show will be revealed to sponsors both past and present. February 13th will see the ‘Wings ‘N Wheels Kick Off Press Conference’, at the airport. March 24th Media Day and then finally March 25th & 26th ‘Wings’ will open to the public. In between there are several other dates to keep in mind including: committee meetings, workshops and 2 more newsletters. Alongside advertising and the website, the newsletter has become an important source of information about the show. News regarding the performers, the battle re-enactment, attractions, sponsors, volunteers and much more are frequently highlighted making it something you’ll want to read and we hope, something you will want to share with others. This competition is designed to recognize outstanding achievement in event promotion by air shows. ICAS judges, composed of marketing and design professionals, judge on a wide spectrum of key elements. ‘Wings’ took home first place awards in categories of sponsorship program, print ad campaign, and souvenir program (for the second year in a row); as well as second place for brochure. “Our marketing goal is to actively promote the show while driving forward the mission of the event and increasing the awareness of Victory Forge Military Academy and Boot Camp.” states Marketing Committee Member, David R. Bardt. The theme of the show is carried throughout the shows marketing material making it an important and effective tool. Marketing material credits include the following: Souvenir Program: Coordinated by Larraine Kelly and Designed by Debby Keseric Page 2 of 5 Sky’s the limit for wings ‘n wheels Print Ads: Designed by Mickey Planker of Aardvark Productions and sponsored by Scripps Treasure Coast Newspapers Sponsorship Program: Created by Inez Frid Brochure: Designed by Mickey Planker Immediately following the ‘05 show the marketing committee composed of Col. Alan Weierman, he went on to say “The more awareness we bring to Victory Forge the more people will understand that this is an organization that needs everyone’s support”. “…‘Wings’ won four more prestigious awards at the International Council of Air Shows... “ Page 3 of 5 BRIEFINGS To make arrangements for an Ambassador to speak at your function, or to request more information contact Victory Forge Military Academy and Boot Camp at 800-804-5445 or inezfrid@bellsouth.net. Ambassador program With the third anniversary of ‘Wings’ rapidly approaching we want to get the word out to as many folks as possible. That is why Wings ‘N Wheels created the Ambassador Program. Dickerson’s commitment to the community has existed for as many years and continues on today with its sponsorship support of Wings ‘N Wheels for the second year. Dickerson began in 1944 with the independence and vision of N. K. Dickerson who along with his wife founded The Dickerson Group, Inc. In 1965 they acquired a number of small aircraft as a necessary aid to improve efficiency and expedite production. From those humble beginnings of one dragline and a few Page 4 of 5 “…become known throughout the Treasure Coast as one of the premier road builders …” trucks to a small fleet of corporate aircraft to forty-one asphalt plants spread from West Virginia to Key West, Dickerson has experienced a steady, continual growth earning a reputation of leadership in their industry. Mr. Dickerson was asked in a 1968 interview, “To what do you owe your success?” He replied, “To my associates. They’re terrific people. To intuition and support…you can’t turn your back on it for a minute.” Although at the time he was speaking of his companies’ prowess in the road construction and site development industries he could have been easily speaking of the production of airshows. Why do companies sponsor events? Companies like the ones we feature in ‘Briefings’ realize that events like Wings ‘N Wheels bring communities together and that the positive impacts are many. They also realize that sponsorships help their brand or company message rise above the clutter of traditional advertising. It’s a fact that Wings ‘N Wheels draws big crowds which means unmatched density of exposure for a company and their brand. Airshows like Wings ‘N Wheels have an intensely loyal fan base and diverse demographics, helping sponsors connect with their audience. Also ‘Wings’ has in the past and will again, attract important media coverage. Front-page newspaper articles, photographs, television, radio coverage as well as world wide web coverage, all provide outstanding opportunities to promote the show and its sponsors. Its reasons like that along with exciting benefits such as: tickets, VIP hospitality, parties and receptions, rides in one-of-kind aircraft help companies decide that sponsoring an event like Wings ‘N Wheels, an event that benefits the community while supporting a charitable organization is a sound business decision. “…It’s a fact that Wings ‘N Wheels draws big crowds …” Page 5 OF 5 BRIEFINGS Keiser College in Port St. Lucie, part of the statewide Keiser Collegiate System, which serves more than 9,200 students throughout Florida, provides education, which prepares students for high-demand careers through personalized attention and unique one-class-at-a-time scheduling. Keiser College has been educating students along the Treasure Coast since 1999 and has a history of providing area businesses with proficient workers who typically stay in this area and contribute to the community. For more information about Keiser College 772-398-9990. ONLY THE BEST FOR VIP’S Continually trying to raise the bar for Aircrews, Sponsors and VIPs by providing more services and benefits, Wings ‘N Wheels will be collaborating with the massage therapy students from Keiser College to offer chair massages in the VIP Pavilion. Quite possibly a first for an airshow! It isn’t uncommon for pilots and crew to feel achy after their long flights in cramped cockpits when they travel to a show. Offering this unique service complimentary to pilots, performers, crew, Sponsors and VIPs is just one more thing that sets ‘Wings’ apart from the others. Students from the ‘Medical Assisting Program’ will also be volunteering at the show’s First Aid Services Station alongside the St. Lucie County Fire Department providing another much needed service to the show. “…Students from the ‘Medical Assisting Program’ will also be volunteering at the show’s First Aid Services Station …” UPCOMING January - February Wings ‘N Wheels ’06 Sponsor Reception Thur.
