Calling all Penn State Honors Scholars! Submit your photo in Flickr for a cross-campus collaborative project with the theme: EVOLVE Upload deadline: February 12, 2009 Photo window Photo may be taken anytime between January 1 and February 12, 2009 Campus photo tags: pennstateabington, pennstatealtoona, pennstatebeaver, pennstateberks, pennstatedubois, pennstatebrandywine, pennstateerie, pennstatefayette, pennstategreaterallegheny, pennstateharrisburg, pennstatehazleton, pennstatelehighvalley, pennstatemontalto, pennstatenewkensington, pennstateyork, pennstateschuylkill, pennstateshenango, pennstateuniversitypark, pennstateworthingtonscranton Join your fellow honors scholars across the university for an innovative and fun project! Each scholar is being asked to take a photograph of something at a campus, in town, or at a place you have visited in the new year that you think represents the theme EVOLVE. Then, by February 12, all honors scholars in all honors programs across the state will upload their photo to the Penn State Honors Flickr site with a title and description (directions are on the reverse). Why the theme EVOLVE? There are several significant historic tributes and current events taking place in early 2009. Charles Darwin and Abraham Lincoln are both celebrating their 200th birthday (on February 12, as a matter of fact!). The first AfricanAmerican president will be sworn in as Commander-in-Chief for the United States of America, and there will be nationwide celebrations for the Martin Luther King Day of Service. Please take some time to think about what the term EVOLVE means to you, and how you can demonstrate its meaning through a snapshot. The key here is not just taking the photos or viewing them but that scholars exchange responses to the work of others by commenting in Flickr. You will benefit from the opportunity to view through the lenses of your peers the theme EVOLVE. We encourage you to avoid the iconic images of Penn State in favor of “insider” views of neighborhoods, streets, events, etc. Questions? Contact your campus honors coordinator To submit your photo to Flickr: 1) Create a Yahoo email account (http://www.yahoo.com/). Then create a Flickr account with your Yahoo email (http://www.flickr.com/). 2) After logging in to Flickr, go to the menu and click on “Groups,” then pull down to “Search for a Group.” Click on the group name “Penn State Honors—Evolve.” 3) Click on “Join this group.” You will be able to create an email message that allows Dr. Guertin (PSU Brandywine) to add you to this group. In the “Your Message” Box, enter your name, Penn State userid (as your identity may not be obvious from your Yahoo email address), and which campus you are a Penn State honors scholar. After typing your message, click “SEND THIS.” Dr. Guertin will then add you to the group, and you will receive an email confirmation once this is completed. 4) Next, go to your photostream and upload your photo (you can upload as many photos as you wish, but only one photo per scholar can be added to the Group). Make sure “Set privacy” is set to “Public.” When it is finished, click on “add a description.” Under “Add Tags,” type pennstatehonors and pennstateevolve with a space between these two tags. In addition, add a third tag for your campus (see listing on front). 5) Add an original title to your photo. In the “Description” box, enter your description as to how your photo fits with the theme EVOLVE. 6) Click “SAVE” on the bottom of the page. 7) After your request to be added to the Group has been successfully processed, now you need to add one photo to the “Penn State Honors—Evolve” group. Go back to your photostream and click on the image. Then, above the photo, you will see a button that says “SEND TO GROUP.” On the pull-down list, select “Penn State Honors—Evolve,” and now your image has been submitted for fellow scholars to view and discuss! ADDITIONAL GUIDELINES The photo must be one you have taken between January 1 and February 12, 2009. The photo must be unaltered—no adjustments to color or image size. Only one photo may be submitted per scholar. If your photo includes people, you must have the permission of those in the photo before you upload the photo. E) By uploading your photo, you agree to have your image remain part of the Penn State Honors-Evolve group in Flickr after February 12. You understand that your photo may be posted on a Penn State honors blog or website at any of the campuses. F) Our Flickr group is a family-friendly group, established so that it can be viewed by others even outside of honors. Inappropriate images, language or disrespectful comments towards other scholars will not be tolerated and will result in the removal of your image. A) B) C) D)
