CONCORDIA LUTHERAN SCHOOL UNIFORM POLICY AND DRESS CODE A. PHILOSOPHY AND PURPOSE At Concordia, we believe that a student’s appearance has an impact on his/her attitude toward school, and thus affects his/her behavior while at school. School uniforms help students show respect for the entire school community by making the statement, “We are here to learn.” The primary purpose of this uniform policy is to help foster a campus environment in which student attention is focused primarily on the educational process and not on other concerns such as individual differences, current styles, and so forth. It is expected that the following secondary benefits will be realized: 1. Students will develop an awareness of propriety; 2. Parents will have less difficulty helping their children dress for school. B. UNIFORM CLOTHING The following uniform clothing is required: 1. Boys and Girls Pants: Navy blue, black, or khaki twill (fitted or elastic) or Navy blue or black denim (must be in good condition; no embroidery; no frayed cuffs) Dark blue or black sweatpants may be worn on cold days and for physical education classes. Shorts: Navy blue, black, or khaki twill (fitted or elastic) or Dark blue or black denim (must be in good condition; no embroidery; no cut- offs) Shirts: White, light blue, or navy blue knit polo-type with collar; must be embroidered with the Concordia logo on them. Socks must be worn with shoes designed to be worn with socks, and the socks must be visible. Shoelaces must be tied at all times. 2. Artificial or “press-on” nails are not allowed. 8. Make-up No make-up of any kind may be worn by students at Concordia Lutheran School. No exceptions will be made. 9. Students should always check with their teachers or the principal before wearing items of this sort. D. FREE DRESS DAYS Certain days throughout the school year are designated as “free dress days.” These days will be publicized in the weekly Newsflash. Non-uniform clothing may be worn on these days. However, the preceding dress code requirements still apply on free dress days. E. EXTENDED DAY CARE The foregoing uniform and dress code requirements apply to all students not only during school hours but also during before- and after-school (extended day care) hours. F. NON-COMPLIANCE Parents of students who do not comply with Concordia’s uniform policy and dress code will be notified. Depending on the extent of non-compliance, parents may be asked to bring appropriate clothing to school. Continued and willful non-compliance may result in referral to the principal for disciplinary action. G.
