The following are a sample of letters of appreciation received by Cheshire Constabulary. Letter 1 My wife and I would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the officers who attended and helped us through our recent house burglary. They were most professional, offering reassurance, advice and sympathy, with the offer of ongoing communication, should the need arise. At a time, when it appears both politically and socially necessary to offer increasingly negative attitudes towards the Police, we can only offer our most sincere thanks, to all your officers involved and to Mr Holmes. In all cases their actions were entirely professional, but with a very genuine care and concern for us, the victims of crime. It is both comforting and reassuring to know that officers of such quality are doing their utmost to uphold law and order. Letter 2 Following an unfortunate incident that happened to me in Chester recently, I wish to commend two police officers to you. Police officer 738 and 3923 assisted me with an incident and made sure I was taken home safely. These two officers were very helpful, caring and diligent in their duties and they were both excellent ambassadors for Cheshire Police. I commend them to you in the highest regard. Letter 3 My wife and I had the misfortune to be involved in a major RTA. Constable Wedgewood attended the incident and I feel it is necessary to write to you to commend PC Wedgewood for the calm and professional way in which he took command of the incident. His actions on that night helped to ease what was a very traumatic incident for all the people involved. He performed his duty in an exemplary manner and I thought it necessary that I should put my
thanks on record. Letter 4 I just felt I had to write to you to thank you and your team. I would particularly like to thank DC Ian Watson who dealt with me and my daughter from the very start of the investigation until after the sentencing. At all time DC Watson dealt with us with real professionalism and great sensitivity, we felt like we were more that just ‘another case’ and in fact felt that we were DC Watson’s only case, which I am sure was not true. After the attack I was dreading the questioning on top of the shock of all the events. I was emotionally drained yet DC Watson made the whole process as painless as possible, and at no time did I feel I was being judged. We owe you a great debt of gratitude and we thank you once again for the work you and your team undertake. After the support DC Watson and his colleagues have provided to my family I have nothing but praise for the police. Letter 5 My sister, myself and our families have recently been devastated by the arson of my mother’s house and the death of our sister. During the period between the death and the subsequent trial and successful prosecution we have got to know and greatly appreciated four members of your team: DCI Jed Manley DI Geoff Elvey DC Mike Price DC Karen Draco We want to record our intense admiration for their tenacity, which was a key factor in a successful prosecution, together with their sensitivity and very complete and continuous briefing of ourselves throughout the case. They are exemplary.
We wish these officers the best, and hope that their performance could be better known and shared by the public and the newspapers, who often and unjustly have a very different view of the police.
