Island Trails is a not-for-profit, non government organization which promotes and
facilitates trail use, trail development and trail care. Island Trails also coordinates trail
events and volunteer programs.
Island Trails is governed by a volunteer board of directors with geographical
representation from across the province.
The Confederation Trail consists of 400 kilometers of cycling and walking trails, 274
kilometers from Tignish to Elmira, and five branch lines containing the remaining 126
The Confederation Trail is quickly becoming one of eastern Prince Edward Islands most
unique and popular tourism attraction. Each year, thousands of locals and visitors enjoy
the serene beauty that the trails offer.
This year Island Trails is working hard to develop the 2nd annual three day recreational
family cycling event planned for eastern PEI which is scheduled for October 11th- 13th
2008. In early October Prince Edward Islands fall foliage will be at its majestic peak
creating the perfect setting for a peaceful bike ride through eastern PEI.
On Saturday October 11th, registered cyclists will depart St. Peters and make there way
along the Confederation Trail eventually finishing for the day in Souris. That afternoon
and evening the community of Souris will be host to a social event for cyclists to enjoy.
On Sunday October 12th cyclists will depart the community of Mt. Stewart and travel to
the seaside town of Montague. A reception with live entertainment for the participants,
sponsors and general public will follow the event.
On Monday October 13th cyclists will depart Iona and cycle to Wood Islands. A wind up
celebration with live entertainment and refreshments will close out this special cycling

copies of the event brochure which will be distributed throughout Atlantic Canada and
also be available online at www.islandtrails.ca

‘showcase’ what you have to offer.
This ‘shoulder season’ event will attract visitors to the island at the tail end of the tourism
season and add to eastern Prince Edward Islands economy.
