I first decided to do a hub on 2010 Top Paying Keywords back in December. I thought it
would be something fun to write. I am always using Google Adwords Keyword Tool and
thought it would be fun to research all of the topics I had written down to write about or that I
had already written and have stored safely on my hard drive. I also want to know what the
top paying keywords were right now.

Using my trusty Google, I searched “Top Paying Keywords”, “High Paying Keywords”, “Best
Keywords”, etc. The search results, as you may guess, were bountiful. There are hundreds
of blogs and articles claiming they have the best or the highest paying keyword lists. Most of
the keywords I saw on their lists were words I simply did not have topics for. I certainly have
no knowledge on DUI Attorneys or how to find one. Mesothelioma was always on the top of
the lists, but again I had no knowledge or background on the subject. Until now, I didn’t even
know what it was. I know now, via Wikipedia that Mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer that
develops from the protective lining that covers many of the body’s internal organs. It is
almost always caused by exposure to asbestos. So, now that we all have that information,
we can move on.

Based on the information I found on my many Google searches, I knew I could not write an
article based on research of other blogs or articles, I had to search their “top paying
keywords” to find out if they were really top paying keywords. Research is the best tool any
writer can have and should use. I wasn’t surprised to find that many of the top keywords
these blogs or articles suggested were not “top”, “high” or “best”, many of the keywords were
quite low paying. These articles, using charts and diagrams, pointed out that many of the
keywords on their lists were paying in upwards of $90.00 per click, very deceiving once you
actually search the keyword yourself. Among the many articles, I also found a plethora of
keyword search software that I could purchase and take over the internet marketing world. I
had used a free version of Market Samurai when I did the 30 Day Challenge, yes, it had
more options than Google Adwords, but all in all, I wasn’t going to purchase software that I
didn’t need. Adwords works fine for me. The one thing that Adwords does not tell you is how
profitable the clicks are (if it does, please let know where?). You could be writing an article
for keywords that pays $15.00, but how many clicks are you going to get? You need to
research you keyword farther than just how much money it makes per click, if it isn’t going to
get clicks, are you going to make any money?

Keywords for My Topics

I began my search for keywords on topics I like to write about here on Hubpages and
elsewhere. Cooking came in at $2.40, recipes was low at $0.90 but gained strength with a
niche like diabetic recipes. Scrapbooking ranges from a mere $0.05 to $3.99, depending on
the type of keyword I wanted to use. I looked up a lot of keywords, only to find that my range
of keyword ideas was probably not going to make me any money. With this new knowledge,
I’m in re-write mode.

Reading and Research

There are many writers here on Hubpages that are experts on SEO, keywords, and writing
quality content. They make money. While I haven’t found my niche for money making just
yet, I found the 2010 Top Keyword Search quite fun. It was also a challenge. You need to
remember for each keyword you choose, for example “scrapbooking” there will be a broad
range of keywords to choose from. In Adwords you can sort your columns to list the keyword
by click price. You will find that “scrapbooking” may start at $0.05 and expand with different
words to “scrapbooking business” at $3.99.
If we all used the same high paying keywords, the web would be a pretty boring place. Find
keywords that suit you and your writing style. If you know nothing about the topic, research it
and learn as much all you can. I can say I learned a lot more researching my keywords than
I would have learned from reading a topic on how to search for them, learn by doing!

Researching your keyword takes a time. Don’t settle on a keyword just because it pays
$5.00; make sure that keyword also has a good search volume. If the volume is into the
millions then you know that millions of people are searching for this word. Does that mean
your article is going to make it the first page of a Google search? Something to think about
and research for yourself!

Google Keyword Tool Explained

My 2010 Top Keywords

Here is my list of 2010 Top Keywords. They are in order of click rate. I’ve used a combination
of many different website lists, plus my own words. I literally put hundreds of words into
Google Adwords, and I found some great new keywords for myself! This list is not extensive,
but will give you an idea of what words you may want to use in your next article! The data
was collected during the last half of January 2010 through February 6, 2010. I didn't find the
big money, as some websites claim, so if you can find one for $70.00 or more, let us all know
:)
