Dr. Stanley honored as “Teacher of the Year”
The faculty and staff of Prairie View A&M Univer-
sity recently honored one of its own with a special
Dr. Victor G. Stanley, a professor of animal sci-
ence and research scientist in the College of Agri-
culture and Human Sciences, was selected at the
recipient of Prairie View A&M University’s 2008-
2009 President’s Teaching Award.
Stanley was presented with the award during the
university’s annual Faculty and Staff Conference,
held August 21-22, 2008 at the Houston Westchase
Marriott. The award honors teaching faculty who

have demonstrated exemplary performance inside the
classroom. Stanley was chosen to receive the award among seven other faculty members. “Teaching
is very effective and meaningful and I couldn’t have done out without some of my colleagues,”
Stanley said after receiving the award.
A member of the Prairie View family for 28 years, Stanley said he initially intended on spending six
months at the university. During his acceptance speech, Stanley thanked College Agriculture Dean
Freddie L. Richards with bringing him to Prairie View.
“At the end of six months, I said to my class, ‘I’m going back to Jamaica.’ They said, ‘stay with us.’
The way they said it broke my heart. So I said, ‘I’m going to stay with you.’ Six months have turned
into 28 years,” he said.
Dr. Stanley is the coordinator of the Animal Science program, the leader of the university’s Poultry
Center and is an adjunct assistant professor in the Poultry Science Department of Texas A&M Uni-
versity. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Tuskegee Institute in Animal Science, a Master’s De-
gree in Poultry Science, Nutrition and Management from Iowa State University and Ph.D. in Texas
Poultry Science, Health and Environment from Texas A&M University. He is a member of the Na-
tional Poultry Science Association and the World Poultry Science Association.
