1. TO HELP YOU DO WHATEVER YOU WANT TO DO IN LIFE. You have to work for the rest of your life, and the choices you make while you are in high school help determine what kind of work you will be able to do. 2. TO EMPOWER YOU! I might not always be looking after you. You need to be able to tell any counselor, “This is what I want, and this is what I need.” 3. TO MAKE SURE YOU KNOW WHAT YOU NEED TO DO BE ELIGIBLE TO GO TO A 4-YEAR UNIVERSITY.

To graduate from high school...
• Credits required: 230 credits
• Pass all required classes. • Pass all areas of the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE): -350 or better on English Language Arts -350 or better on Math • Complete 60 hours of community service, a senior portfolio, computer literacy, and service learning.

*If you take a 3rd year of foreign language, you will not have to take one year of foreign language at UCs and some private schools.

A year of Art, Drama, Dance, Theater, Music, Singing, etc.
College Eligibility (A-G)
1 year = 2 semesters = 10 credits

“G” – ELECTIVES:
High School Graduation
14 semesters = 70 credits
Any class not required to graduate (such as foreign language).
College Eligibility (A-G)
1 year = 2 semesters = 10 credits

An extra year of requirements from a list of approved “G” elective courses. (Commonly: An extra year of math or science, such as Physics, Trig./Math Analysis, etc.)
TECHNICAL ARTS:
High School Graduation 1 year = 2 semesters = 10 credits
Most often thought of as “computers”, but there are a few others that count, such as Infant Studies and Fashion Design. Taking “Intro to computers” fulfills your computer literacy requirement, as well.
