                                              VOLUNTEER APPLICATION

Thank you for your interest in meeting the spiritual needs of those within the local criminal
justice system. As you consider serving in this ministry, please note that anyone applying to
participate as a volunteer at the Brazos County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) facilities will be subject
to a criminal history background check prior to approval and must complete a volunteer
orientation session.

According to BCSO guidelines, anyone convicted of offenses against a correctional facility,
officers of a correctional facility, or possession of a controlled substance in a correctional facility
will not be approved to participate. Anyone arrested, convicted, or who has had periods of
incarceration for any offense will not be approved until at least eighteen (18) months after their
last arrest, conviction, incarceration, probationary or parole period. Any person with three (3) or
more arrests, convictions, or incarcerations in the last ten (10) years will not be approved to
participate in volunteer programs.

Any approved volunteer who is found to violate BCSO jail rules or volunteer rules will be
subject to temporary suspension or dismissal.

Please be thorough in completing the following application.

You will be notified of your status as “Approved” for entry to BCSO facilities or “Not Approved
at this time.” Those not approved for BCSO ministry are encouraged to serve in another
capacity.

Behavioral Guidelines for BCSO Ministry:
        Be prompt.
Don’t Discuss inmate’s guilt or innocence
Don’t Discuss staff members with inmates
Don’t Discuss conditions of confinement
Don’t Give or accept gifts or favors
Don’t Give out your telephone or address
Don’t Carry contraband or messages
Don’t Use derogatory statements
Don’t Wear provocative clothing
Don’t Wear gang clothing or paraphernalia
Don’t Wear clothing with advertisements
        In short, be responsible!

I understand the above boundaries and agree to abide by them. As a guest of BCSO, I
understand I am under its authority while ministering in its facilities, and must graciously adhere
to its policies. Further, I understand that I must treat all inmates, staff and religious volunteers
equally and fairly without regard to race, sex, national origin, religious preference, or physical
disability.
