Dear Sir / Madam
Sponsorship proposal for the 2009 Variety NSW NRMA Insurance
Bennelong to Broken Hill Bash - Car number 307
The Cause (Variety)
To help sick and underprivileged children .Over the past seventy years Variety Clubs international has raised
more than $1 billion for the assistance of special needs children making it one of the worlds largest charities
.With your help we hope to raise the bar and keep adding to this massive amount.
We are sure that most of you would know of, or have had some contact with a child with a disability be it
learning, illness, or disease. Their innocence and ability to sometimes understand why these things are
happening or have happened is hard to forget once you see it.
We can’t cure everything but if we can raise some money to help cover medical expenses, buy them some
much-needed equipment (even some toys), or provide them with some fun to help relieve their pain and
suffering this is what we will do.
Our Plan (enter the variety bash)
Every year as part of their fundraising they hold several car rallies or otherwise known as “bashes”. These
events alone raise in excess of approximately 6-7 million dollars each year nationally.
The way this is done is by large entrance fees and also fundraising. Costs of entering the bash per car is
approximately $12,000.00. This does not include fuel, maintenance, accommodation, bash fines (another way
of helping to raise more money) etc.
Obviously it does not cost $12,000.00 dollars per car to run the event (more like $1500-2000 per car) but it
includes the organisation, food, hiring of halls, logistics etc. The rest of the money is used to donate goods like
computers, play ground equipment, wheel chairs, medical equipment, etc. On top of these entrance fees we
hope to raise an additional $40,000.00 to help the kids.
Where Does My Money Go?
It goes to Variety one of the largest children’s charities in the world. Variety started in Sydney in 1975 since
then Variety has established regions in all States and the Northern Territory.
Each year Variety handles many appeals from individuals, associations, institutions, hospitals and schools.
These include appeals for sunshine coaches, special medical equipment for children’s hospitals, wheelchairs,
artificial limbs, playground equipment, talking books and many other special need equipment. All appeals must
relate to special needs children.
How You Can Help
There are several ways of helping us to achieve our goal:
1 – Money – we are looking for major and minor sponsors any amount is greatly received and all are tax
2 – Goods – if you can provide goods we can either raffle them off to raise money or give them to Variety to
donate as seen necessary
3 – Services – again we can raffle them off or have Variety donate them to a needy cause
everything no matter how small or large will be great fully received and will all help the cause
Your reward for helping will be knowing that you have made a child’s life that much richer by helping to fulfill
their special needs.

The Story of the bash…
The first Bash was organised by electronics businessman, explorer and philanthropist Dick Smith in June 1985.
He organised a group of people to travel from Sydney to Bourke in Far West New South Whales, and from there
to Burketown to Northern Queensland.
Dick wanted to take a few mates for a drive in the outback in old cars and at the same time raise money for a
charity. Dick charged everyone to enter the event and entrants were able to bribe officials or be fined. The first
bash raised over $250,000 for Variety.
Since 1986 the Bash has become a major event for the Variety calendar and is organised by Variety.
We will be led by:
• Duncan Scott - owner and operator of Macquarie 4x4. Duncan has over 15 years in the 4wd industry and
will make sure that the car sees the distance and has no faults.
• Anthony Duff-Gordon – operations manager of PADI Asia Pacific – who has undertaken many years of 4wd
trucks and treks across Australia. Anthony’s speciality is navigation -he will make sure we get there.
• Glenn Hiddins – Glenn also works for PADI as the IT manager and his brother is the one and only “Bush
Tucker Man”(Les Hiddins). We are hoping that he will keep the crew fed and watered.
We have chosen an Aussie icon - the old HG Brougham. It’s a 1970 model fully prepared and raring to go. We
already have several local businesses helping us with the preparation and without them we wouldn’t be going
and confident that the car will go the distance. Professionally sign written, it is painted in a bright yellow and
white to stand out from the crowd.
